Looking forward to His coming.

This year for Christmas we are beginning some new traditions for our family. The season of Advent, a period of time between the fourth Sunday before Christmas and Christmas, is a season that the church celebrates the Second Coming of Christ by looking back at His First Coming.

Today, being the fourth Sunday before Christmas, we celebrated Advent in our home. We lit the first of five candles. There are four candles in a circle representing different aspects of Jesus. Each Sunday you light a new one until they are all lit. The fifth candle is in the middle. That represents Jesus. We will burn that on Christmas Eve all day.

So for each Sunday we, as a a family will light a candle and read some Bible passages about the most amazing story ever told. That, of course, is the story of how the Creator of the universe, God, entered into our world. John 1:14 says, "The Word (Jesus) became flesh and dwelt among us." Another version puts it even better, "The Word became flesh and moved into the neighborhood." God humbled Himself and became a man to save us all. That is the true meaning of Christmas...and we want our kids to know all about our wonderful Jesus.

After today's time together we let Abigail blow out the candle. It took her about 40 tries.
