Proud of her catch

I think that everyone remembers catching lightning bugs as a kid, I know I do. I've really dreamed of the day that I could take Abigail, so we decided to let her stay up late last night and have her first go at it. So after Josiah was all settled in we headed outside with a jar ready to go. It didn't take long to find some, and by the end we had quite a load. She did so well catching them herself, she actually suprised me. It was so much fun to watch her run around the yard yelling, "There's one!!!" quickly followed by, "I caught it." Here she is with her catch. We sat the jar on her dresser and she fell asleep watching them blink.

Me and my hippo

Me and my hippo

So Josiah looks pretty conserned in this pic, I think he's just concentrating really hard. He's really gotten good at walking around with his hippo. He'll walk as far as he can, and then he'll run into a piece of furniture, and then he'll get frustrated, and i'll turn him around, and it'll all start over. He also went to the doc today for his 9 month check up. He now weighs in at 21 lbs and 2 ozs. and is 29 1/2 inches tall. He is so big, but so darn sweet, my gentle giant.

Enjoying some tractor cake

For like 2 months any time I asked Abigail what she wanted to get her dad for his birthday, she would always say, "A tractor cake." Well let me tell you there was no way I was going to be able to make a cake look like a tractor. If you remember blogs from Abigail's last birthday, "we" made her cakes that looked like VeggieTales, but I baked them and John did the fancy stuff. So I couldn't ask him to make his own cake, so I had to think what to do. So we frosted it, and made some look like grass, and bought a little John Deere tractor to put on top of it. Here Abigail is with her daddy enjoying some of it. She helped me bake it too, from shredding a pound of carrots, to measuring the sugar, and stirring. She dreamed of a tractor cake, and here it is.

Recently Josiah has been crawling, and then sitting up on his feet to do stuff. It is truly one of the cutest things, isn't he cute, I mean look at that smile. He is reading a book in Abigail's room in this picture. That is one of his favorite places to be.

It is so fun to watch them play together, and Josiah is hilarious when he crawls around inside the tent. I think that here they are having some sort of brother/sister deep talk, or maybe they are just discussing how silly they think I am.

So as we have been spending so much time outside I always put a hat on Josiah to protect his bald little head. So the other day Abigail came out of her room and had this hat on, and yes it's a tobogan, and she said, "I'm going to wear this to protect my head." So she wore it around the house most of the morning, but she did actually take it off when it was time to go outside.
